Our history
Launched by Jean Prouvost, the visionary founder of Paris Soir, Marie Claire emerged in 1937 as a revolutionary force in the magazine landscape. Its initial weekly circulation garnered unprecedented success, selling half a million copies of its debut issue and reaching a million copies by 1939. Prouvost's commitment to global inspiration and journalistic excellence made Marie Claire a true trailblazer, blending fashion, beauty, and serious journalism. After a hiatus due to the Second World War, it was reborn in 1954, this time in a monthly format, which it has retained to this day, maintaining Prouvost's vision through the legendary Marcelle Auclair's editorial excellence.
